DIY Lace Doily

First off, how beautiful is this!

I found this DIY project on Re-Nest last week and couldn't wait to share it with you!  This is so fun, easy and creative!  I mean first off, whose mother doesn't have about a hundred of these lying around somewhere....well, maybe that is just my mother but I swear doilies are fairly common.  If you and your mother don't have some then you can bet your grandma probably does! :)  Growing up in my house, the funny thing about doilies and lace was that we had so many of them (a drawer full mind you) and that is exactly where they sat... in the drawer.  Sure they came out for special occasions but it was few and far between. Well, had I known about this DIY project when I got married I would have put them to good use!

I love the idea of draping it over a vase you already have.  It is so simple and yet so elegant. This would compliment the decor at any vintage wedding but I also love the idea of putting it on a table next to your guest book!  Another great way to incorporate this into your wedding decor is to use it as a centerpiece.  The doily is so intricate that you would actually want very simple and minimal flowers in order to showcase the piece.  This would probably save you a lot of money on centerpieces as a result!  If you are interested in this DIY project, head on over to Re-Nest for the full DIY tutorial here.

Paperless Seating Arrangements

by Kate 23. July 2010 04:21

One way to go green with your wedding is to limit the amount of paper you use. However, in some areas this can be extremely difficult; especially when it comes to the seating arrangement for your guests! It often seems like you can never get away from using paper.  I have seen a lot of weddings online where the bride and groom have used chalkboards or even windows to display this information although I have yet to see it in person. Although it looks very chic I do worry about the logistics; especially with the windows!  Do you think your grandparents or elderly relatives would be able to read it?  Have you ever been to a wedding where the seating chart was posted on a recycled window or chalkboard?  Were you able to read it?  We would love for you to share your thoughts and experiences with paperless seating charts with us!

Fabric Flower Obsession at its best

by Kate 18. February 2010 20:36

I have to admit I am completely obsessed with fabric flowers and birdcage veils (more on veils in a later post).  If used properly they can really showcase your personality and sense of style.  They are so chic and can be used in various ways to accent your wedding attire.  I think they look great on a clutch, in your hair, on a shawl,  on the back of your dress to accent your sash, etc.

One of the great things about being a Seattle bride is that you have a plethora of talented, green and local vendors at your fingertips.  If you are interested in fabric flowers we have our own talented expert right here in Seattle. Cindi, is a local Seattle eco-entrepreneur and the owner of Brass Paper Clip.  She created all of the fabric flowers below and you can see more of her work on Eco Etsy Weddings.  If any of you green brides decide to use fabric flowers on your wedding day, please send us pictures!  We would love to see them in action on our readers.
